Architectural Design
The Question Machine
[This project is a work in progress in my current studio semester]
This project is a 30,000 SF mixed use building in downtown Indianapolis. The first floor is reduced price grocery store, while the upper floors are single resident occupancies for people transitioning out of homelessness. Although the project is still in it's early stages, the current structure is exposed cross laminated timber members and glulam columns. Energy use is important to the project and we are currently tracking in our early analysis and optimization an EUI of 22 Kbtu/sf.year |
Continuing Education Center
This competition project was designed as a community center in the heart of Indianapolis, Indiana. In this community center, people could come to learn how to incorporate sustainability into their trade or learn a new trade involving sustainability. It also acts as a hub for the community to gather along the Monon Trail in Indianapolis. This project won 2nd place in the Ball State ACSA Steel Competition.

Cooper Farm Environmental Center
This environmental center is located on 88 acres of prairie and used to educate classes about the wildlife and plants located there. The design is a marriage of two Midwestern architectural vernaculars of the barn and prairie style construction. Earth bermed walls with ribbon windows dissolve the visual separation between building and landscape.

Biophilic Education Center
This addition to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis aims to educate high school and older students about the value of biophilic and sustainable design in the built environment. The torus shaped structure wraps around a central courtyard that provides a visual connection to nature which has shown to increase student performance, reduce stress, and lower blood pressure.

Wabash River Visitor's Center
For the Indiana Hardwood Lumberman's Association Design Competition, I explored how wood fibers align with one another and how their biological formation can influence the form of a structure. The Shell of this museum and visitor's center is supported using glulam members to create a dynamic and memorable user experience. Presentation drawings for this project were laser cut onto wood.

Tea House Landscape
Next to to the Ball State College of Architecture building is a Tea House that has Japanese influences. For this project, we needed to create another piece of architecture that celebrated the Tea House and fit into the existing spirit of the College. For my design, I created a series of varied height 4"x4" wood posts on a rectilinear grid that organically dissolve into the ground to form paths of circulation. In the center of the design is a private Koi Pond that can be used for relaxation and meditation.
